Rod has been a athlete most of his life he started boxing at the age of 11 and trained most nights five times a week he had 90 amateur fights and also trained with the England team he was on calendar as one of the most up and coming young boxers but when he went to turn professional he failed his medical on a real weak left eye you can imagine this devastated rod because he had been boxing for 15 years so he decided to go training in a weight lifting gym just to keep fit but after just 3 years rod had become a real top body builder and came 2nd in Mr Great Britain but then he got a real bad injury and had to leave the sport yet again so he decided to take it more easy and decided to race pigeons through his knowledge of carbohydrates protein and fats rod had instant success by breaking his novice status by taking the first four positions with 680 ybs in the race and 40 members in the club every one was spell bound from that day rod never looked back he has never been lower than 3rd highest prize winner all his life but then in 1994 he left the sport because of domestic problems. Rod started racing again in the year 2000 from his new address 23 may street where he became federation champion highest prize winner just racing ybs in his first year. Then in 2002 he broke many records in the club and east sect he won 8 out of the 10 inland races and that record still stands today but out the 8 races he won he actually won 5x1st sects and 5x1st open feds against up to 4,800 birds and up to 400 members there were so many rumours flying about that he was using drugs so the birds were tested and you can imagine the results were negative so obviously it was down to great pigeons and great management. In the six years rod has raced from his address he has been 3 times federation champion highest prize winner and 2nd runner up against up to 5,900 birds a week and up to 400 members he has smashed many records alone the way taking 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 7th 1,074 birds 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 7th 1,950 birds 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 6th 3,020 birds 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 6th 1,693 birds. Rod has also won the shortest race on the Saturday from 70 miles and the very next day won the longest race from 475 miles. There is not much more rod can achieve in the pigeon sport but try and beat his own records.
